How to Create & Share a Google Photo Album
I have been looking at ways in which PPC members can share their work on the PPC website (visit www.ppcphotography.org.uk)
Previously, I had linked the site to Flickr and this worked well. However, recent changes to the Flickr API mean that, for non Pro accounts certainly, the images as shown on the PPC website are distorted and do not display well. The reason for this is that you must have a Flickr Pro account. Since this costs about £70 a year, it is likely that many club members will no longer want to share their work via their personal Flickr accounts.
I have a solution. It may work forever, it may stop working at any time but it is a workable, easy to use solution for most members. Here’s the process that you need to follow to create a Shared Album in Google Photos.
Create your album
Add up to 20 - 25 photos to this album that you wish to share through the PPC website – make them your very best
At the top right of the screen, click on the share icon
Choose Copy Link at the foot of the box that opens
Copy the link code using the Copy Button
Email the link to me at davecollerton@gmail.com. Please include a description or summary of your album in your email. A personal explanation relating to your images always works best. This will be included in your album when displayed.
I will use the link supplied to create an album of your work in the Members Galleries on the website.
IMPORTANT NOTES
We can only show the work of full, paid up club members on the website
You must include a description or back story when you email your link. If you do not do this, we may not create or publish your album / exhibition.
You can only share your album of work using the approach I have outlined above. If you send me any other link, it will not work
Shared Albums is a free service provided by Google
Shared Albums may stop working at some point in the future – PPC cannot guarantee this method of sharing photos will last in perpetuity.
Making and sharing an album is incredibly easy to do. Just follow the instructions that I have provided above.
