Kingsbridge Battle 2022

The Kingsbridge Battle is a tightly contested annual photographic competition between Kingsbridge & District Camera Club (KDCC) and Paignton Photographic Club (PPC). This years event was hosted by KDCC and I have to say, their use of technology to share the competition via Zoom was impressive, more like a NASA control room than a camera club. I am however pleased to say that despite KDCC winning the IT battle hands-down, it was Paignton that emerged winners of the competition with a score of 402 points, Kingsbridge coming very close runners up with 385 points, just 17 points adrift. This was despite Paignton leading by 34 points at the half-way stage so a creditable fight back by Kingsbridge in the second half of the competition. Had there been a third section who knows what the score might have been!

This gallery, organised in no particular order, illustrates just a few of the top placed images selected by judge Nigel West. Nigel is a well known and regarded local photographer and judge as well as the current chairperson at Dawlish and Teignmouth Camera Club. His commentary on each image was engaging and thorough and while not everyone in the audience agreed with his scoring, no one could doubt his integrity and reasoning for scoring each image as he did. In competition it is always interesting to hear the commentary delivered by judges as these often include nuggets of wisdom as well as providing opportunities to revisit our images in order to make small adjustments.

A huge thank you to the KDCC committee for organising and running the event and to Jan Finbow in particular for her help and support in liaising with us here at PPC. A big thank you too in allowing us to show some of the top placed entries from KDCC members. We look forward to next years battle and to welcoming KDCC to Paignton.

All images are copyright their respective owners. Clicking on and viewing each image full screen provides the name of the photographer, the points scored and the club they are affiliated to. Only images with a score of 16 points or more are included in this album with many fine images on both sides, even though scoring only slightly less, omitted for ease of viewing. Looking at the images displayed here I leave it your imagination as to the quality of the images we weren't able to include.
